i am. boolin on a budget
“life is too short to wear boring clothes” -Cushnie et Ochs. okay, okay, maybe im not a fashion week designer, but i love fashion. ive always wanted to dress like my favorite style icon, Carrie Bradshaw, but unfortunately, i dont have the same budget to spend on couture. so in order to dress to impress, ive had to pick up a few tricks along the way. so here it is, my best advice for looking my best without having to go without food for a week. (this is not just for girls!! a well dressed guy > everything)
- look at vintage/resale. this is NOT the first generation of mom jeans and tube tops! (vintage coach purse pictured!)
- wear colors that make you LOOK rich without having to be rich. beige, black, white and mauve are the way to go.
- save up for staple pieces that will last you a long time. Lululemon leggings may seem expensive, but i’ve had the same pair since 8th grade. (& invest in a good pair of sunglasses! these ray bans pictured go with EVERY outfit)
- if you want to shop trendy items, do it somewhere cheap. (odds are, the trend will only be around for a few months anyway) h&m, asos, zara, and forever 21 are my favs!
- visit garage sales for accessories! thats where i find the coolest hats, jewelry & purses. (belt pictured was found at a garage sale)
- rob your mom, dad, grandma, or grandpa (for their old clothes that is) (the shirt pictured is daddios!)
- shop online sparingly. pay attention what it costs to return and ship!
- retail is for suckers. never buy anything not on sale, and always ask the workers when they think the next sale will be & buy it then. if you HAVE to have it at that moment, do it. gotta treat yourself every now and then.
- repurpose/reuse a clothing item. use an ugly tshirt from 2012 and cut it up into something avant-guard (i wore these heels to hoco&prom)
- for guys, a lot of the time, if you buy a cheap suit & take it to the tailor it will look better than one marked up much higher.
- be quirky. i dont think that Rihanna would be as famous if she didn’t take fashion risks every now and then
- finally, wear what makes YOU feel confident. if you’re confident, you can pull anything off
