while grand gestures are nice (my poll yesterday showed 80% of us like them), i find a certain sweetness in the small things. and, while many of us believe that chivalry is as dead as the word ‘litty,’ i’m fairly certain that she is very much alive (just a bit harder to see). while the gestures may seem a bit more subtle than standing outside of a window with a boombox, they’re still there and are just as meaningful (& we love them!). so guys, why don’t you give your girl a little satisfaction and consider treating her to some chivalry on this fine thursday. here are 10 simple ideas to resuscitate a concept that could be going a bit out of style.
.surprise her with flowers. we don’t care how nice they are or how much you spend. you could have picked them out of a stranger’s garden (tbh that would actually be the sweetest).
.pay for the first date. don’t get me wrong, i’m a firm believer in girls paying their way. but, if you’re taking me out on a first date, it’s only polite (& 73% of people agree with me). side note: im not expecting you to pay for my $120 steak dinner. take me to leos if that’s all you can afford.
.say sorry when you know you’re wrong.
.give meaningful compliments. “you’re so sexy” is not usually what a girl wants to hear.
.ask before kissing her. heart eyes
.hold the door open. this is something i know your mama taught you. make her proud.
.when dropping your date off, make sure she gets inside before you leave. this small act is an all time favorite of mine.
.show legit interest. if you can remember my favorite song…you’re in.
.surprise her with things you know she’ll like. i don’t need any of that 24 karat magic, but a boxed water will win my heart.
.and, please, tell your significant other how you feel about her, straight up. there is nothing more romantic than hearing the words “i love you” coming from someone you adore.
chivalry is still very much alive. and odds are, that if you know where to look, you’ll find it. but to keep it from entering the endangered species list, guys do your thing.
