yoga has taught me many things. one of them is that holding boat pose for five minutes is no one’s definition of fun. another is that if you challenge yourself & really focus on your goal, that time will go by so much faster than if you focus on the pain. & you’ll be much stronger because of it.
these lessons don’t just apply to yoga, though. every day we face challenges; whether it’s in our relationships, with homework, or when choosing a coffee from starbuck’s new holiday menu.
you know the old saying, ‘what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger?’ (think kanye and kelly clarkson) i mean, what feels more rewarding, pushing yourself to achieve something great, or giving 50% effort for something subpar? when you procrastinate on homework and throw some words on a page minutes before it’s due, do you feel like you’ve accomplished anything? now consider how you feel when you pour your heart and soul into a project making it perfect?
i’m not saying that i have never bs’d an essay or chosen the easier option, but when i actually challenge myself, & really push it (push it) to the limit (limit), i learn more and feel significantly more proud of what i’ve accomplished. what we all need to stop doing, is thinking of challenges as a bad thing, and embrace them for what they are. an opportunity to grow.
