from using “inspirational” quotes for every caption, to layering on upwards of ten filters, to cropping my forehead out of all of my selfies, i’ve made plenty of mistakes when it comes to my insta. fortunately, i’ve learned a lot since my first insta post & have grown my accounts because of it. i’ve had countless people ask me how this account got so big so fast, so, i thought i’d take a second to pass along these tips.
1.post stories/use captions that allow for some interaction between you and those who choose to follow you. i LOVE reading what people have to say!
2.respond to dms and comments. it’s really all about the relationships you build. i’ve met some really amazing people & have learned a lot from reading my dms.
3.do not sabotage the look of your photos for an aesthetic. sure, i like a clean monochrome insta feed like the next person, but is it worth editing your picture to make you look ghostly pale and unnatural? i’ve found that people are more likely to follow based on an individual image, anyway.
4.dont over advertise. i TRY to advertise so that it’s not ‘in your face’ & i’ll only advertise products that i, myself, will use.
5.post real content. dont be afraid to talk about real life once in a while. we all like to know that we’re not alone.
i know it’s not that serious, but instagram has opened up a lot of doors for me & it can for you, too. i have received many really cool job offers (i mean, i worked for a magician) & several internship opportunities (including, a very successful insta food account, jimmy john’s field, a marketing co., a few magazines and some clothing companies). i’ve gotten offers to write for magazines, as well as model some really dope products. i’ve also received thousands of dollars in free clothing & have met so many really cool people. although you may not exist to ‘do it for the gram,’ you are posting, so i’m guessing, that means you want others to appreciate your content. these tips should help increase your success! for additional suggestions, on thursday, i will post the results of ‘your instagram turnoffs.’
