as the beloved snoop dogg once sang… “b1t¢h3$ ain’t $h*t but hoes and tricks. lick on these nuts and suck the d.” yup.

we all think of snoop dog as a nice celebrity. one that wouldn’t hurt a fly. almost like a friend. i sure did. but then i read his lyrics from this dr dre song. & if you know anything about rap, you know this song isn’t the only one that is demeaning to women. *while this isn’t just a problem with rap (the entire male pop industry, including my fave posty:(, tends to be sexist), rap lyrics are just more blatant in their misogyny.

what’s scary is that in 2017 rap and r&b became the most consumed music genre in the US. worse yet, those listening are teenagers – the group most likely to learn from this music. putting the pieces together… the youth is learning how to be misogynistic. they listen to lyrics, like the song above, and become desensitized to it. without even being aware, they believe an illusory truth – that if something is repeated over and over it must be true. it certainly explains why people can see things like the after effect of chris brown beating up rihanna and think he deserves another chance.

while i’m not foolish enough to think that i have the power to convince artists to stop disrespecting women, i do think we need to educate the youth that sexist behavior is NOT acceptable.

what do you think? got any solutions? let me know in the comments. lets start this conversation, it’s time!
