i am. proud to be an american

where at least i know i’m free…

i read somewhere, recently, that young people are less patriotic than older americans. i started to think about how true this is. when i see the flag, instead of the symbol of freedom, i see something more negative.

unfortunately, my america has shown me school shootings, institutionalized racism, restriction of women’s rights. i see this country as a bit of a mess. but i don’t think that’s fair.

i’m pretty sure that what we see in the media plays a big part. we dont see freedom as much anymore, we see distress. we see “the sky is falling.” we live in fear and i hate it.

but if we think about all that we have achieved as a country, we should be proud! citizens are FREE. we can pursue our dreams. we are still a place that people want to live. beauty, kindness and generosity surround us!

so happy 4th of july! we are lucky to be living in this great country. and, if there is something that we don’t like, we are free to try and make that change.
