i met a girl the other day who said she would really appreciate some advice for incoming college freshmen. because there are so many things to be anxious about, i asked y’all. I know that i am one person, but I have found that many others have had similar issues.
here they are, the things you are most anxious about & my personal advice is…
- FRIENDS: from me & everyone else i’ve talked to, this is wayyyy easier than you think it will be. just try to leave your door open when you’re home & don’t be afraid to randomly go and talk to someone! plus, joining clubs, greek life or sports are great ways to meet people.
- CLASSES: personally, i think that as long as you’re taking classes on topics that you are interested in, they won’t be too hard. also, there are a ton of free tutoring options and your professor & gsis are always there to help.
- COST: this one is tricky because finances are very personal, but if you’re worried, you can always get a job. i’d recommend one that is on your campus/through the university because they are more understanding with scheduling & typically pay well. also, apply for scholarships/aid. theres lots of them out there & even the small amounts add up.
- THE UNEXPECTED: tbh, everyone is in the same boat. it’s scary, but knowing that you’re as lost as everyone else can be slightly comforting. i’d try to find someone who has been through it ( maybe an upperclassmen) & can comfort you when you feel lost. (i’m here for you, too)!
- TIME: i think this differs for everyone. i had little homework last year = more time to do anything (& everything) else. but, it changes every year depending on the classes you take & club involvement. i personally prioritized school & partying came second, but it isn’t as hard as you think to keep a good balance. the hardest thing with time is possibly that you have too much of it. you spend about half of the time in classes compared to high school, so divvying out the rest evenly to keep you well rounded is the trick.
any other concerns? feel free to leave them in the comments below. good luck in the fall!
