arguing. some love it, others hate it. for me, i avoid it like the plague. i noticed the other day as my mom was scrolling through facebook, that social media has recently turned into a political battlefield, one that i don’t want to be drafted into.
as mom read the tea in the comments section and reworded her reply several times, i wondered why she even bothered. it seems like that person was pretty grounded in their opinion & odds were she wasn’t going to say anything groundbreaking. but then it hit me: even if it doesn’t change the way this person thinks, she is bringing the other side of the argument to the table.
as someone that hides whenever politics are mentioned (partly because i hate conflict and also because i am so uneducated on the topic), i noticed that i am in a bubble. i live in a hella liberal city with hella liberal friends and am happy with that. feminism and environmental protests are all i know. & up until now, i thought that was perfect and that my way of thinking must be right. but clearly, my way of thinking isn’t the only way, and i’m clueless about any perspective but my own.
so starting now, i am going to break out of my comfortable little bubble and open my ears to difference. no, this does not mean i am going to join a debate club, but more like read comments for opposition or news from right wing sources. never too late to open my mind to something new.
