i am. female

i am taking a women’s studies class and my professor asked all of the students to introduce themselves in an unconventional way, and discuss what the topics of the class mean to each of us. after doing some serious thinking, i realized that i should start with who i am. i am a blogger. i am italian. i am a social media major. i am white. and i am female. but those are just categories. what about what’s beneath the surface? i am more complex. i am feminine, like a typical woman. i shave my legs, wear dresses, and have long hair (although i have so much respect for girls who choose to go against these social norms). and although i look like a typical woman, i do not necessarily act the part. i have never been someone to follow what is expected of me because of my gender. i am independent and refuse to accept assistance from anyone. i am not emotional. i never played with dolls. i didn’t like high school musical. and my favorite color isn’t pink. i am feminine. i am masculine. i am complicated. i am female. and i am happy with who i am.
