i am. in love

ok, that was only PARTIALLY clickbate

happy valentines day! i have the biggest love/hate relationship with this holiday. like, regardless of the fact that i dont have a date, i really love seeing people in love (see, not completely clickbait). you can’t deny that seeing two people completely infatuated with one another isn’t the sweetest thing.

but seeing two people in love isn’t the only great thing about this holiday. think: heart shaped pizzas and chocolate covered strawberries (thanks, mom).

on the other hand, this holiday is kinda dumb, don’t ya think? no, not because it draws attention to how single i am. the issue i have with this holiday is that it sets unrealistic expectations. its a day of gifts, romantic dinners, and “perfect” nights. but to me, that just screams pressure. i will never understand why we feel the need to get dressed up and spend a ton on food when i, personally, find it much more romantic building a fort out of blankets, making waffles and watching a sappy love story. (side note: if you’re into fancy dinners, no judgment, they just feel forced to me). & why do we need a day designated to showing our love for one another? shouldn’t we always be doing that? & dont get me started with the gifts. i really dont want you to spend your hard earned money on a stuffed animal you felt obligated to get me. I’d rather you get me something out of the blue. something that reminds you of me when you see it. something heartfelt. not because you thought you had to buy me something (although, any gift is still very much appreciated).

so i guess i’m torn. i’m in LOVE with seeing people in love. but i’d rather see them in love and generous with one another all of the time, and not just because it’s expected.

am i the scrooge of v day? nah, i see its value. anything that makes us stop and think about the person we love cant be all that bad. what’s your opinion on valentines day?
